One of our faculty members, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Özdeniz’s project titled “Investigation of Epigenetic Mechanisms Related to Gypsum Stress in Some Gypsophyte and Gypsovag Species Tolerant to Gypsum” has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Program by ARDEB - Chemistry and Biology Research Support Group (KBAG).
Project Topic:
Gypsum-containing soils, found in arid and semi-arid regions around the world, are of great scientific significance not only due to their physical and chemical characteristics but also because of the unique biodiversity they support. This project aims to investigate the epigenetic roles developed in response to drought stress in gypsophyte species (plants that grow exclusively on gypsum soils) and gypsovag species (plants that grow on both gypsum and non-gypsum soils), which naturally grow on gypsum soils. The study focuses on higher plant species naturally occurring in gypsum-rich soils, which have not yet been examined from an epigenetic perspective in the literature.
